Kim WooSeok has been extremely busy lately preparing this album and wrapping up filming for the K-Drama that he acted in called “Bulgasal: Immortal Souls”. He did an outstanding job as the character Nam DoYoon, winning the hearts of many K-Drama fans who may be meeting him as an artist for the first time through this comeback. Kpopmap had the honor of covering Kim WooSeok’s comeback showcase. Here is everything that you need to know about it. Kim WooSeok greeted the audience enthusiastically dressed handsomely in a designer Louis Vuitton shirt and hip black styling. Kim WooSeok expressed his nervousness and excitement to be returning to the stage as a singer after focusing on his acting activities. He expressed that as an actor he hopes to take on diverse roles that make people curious about him. Whereas, as a singer, he hopes to make music that fans can enjoy listening to and that they can enjoy a festival mood through, especially for this album. On Mar. 3, TOP MEDIA uploaded the teaser for ‘Switch’ showing Kim WooSeok waking up into a dream-like reality. ‘Switch’ takes place in a place of imagination. The concept is all about the balance between dreams and reality. He cleared up that the album title “[Reve]” is not about sleeping but rather emphasized that it comments on the possibility of dreams becoming reality and vice versa. It plays on the fine line of the dream state. He also emphasized that although he showed his sexy side in “1ST DESIRE [GREED]” and his cute side in “2ND DESIRE [TASTY]”, “3RD DESIRE [Reve]” is a combination of the two and should appeal to fans regardless of their concept preference. Kim WooSeok, once again, participated in the lyric writing and composition of this album. His approach was different this time, though. He stated that whereas he usually focuses on what he thinks fans would like to hear, this time he had a specific mood in mind and worked on songs whilst writing and erasing lyrics continuously until he got that image across. This album comes in two concepts: Bibbidi and Bobbidi. Inspired by the spell, “Bibbidi bobbidi boo,” from the fairytale Cinderella, Kim WooSeok is enchanting us with his duality in this comeback. The Bibbidi concept portrays the hopes of a boy departing for his dream in a beautiful future. The Bobbidi portrays the whimsical ideal person that he gets to experience becoming in his dream. When asked if there is a message that he wants to send to fans through this album, he answered that he realizes that insomnia is becoming a problem for many people these days and hopes that this album can act as a lullaby that helps them drift to sleep. “3RD DESIRE [Reve]” consists of 6 tracks. The first track ‘Ghostin’’ is an extension of the final song on his second album called ‘Next’. The next track is the title track ‘Switch’ which boasts a unique melody and is a dance-pop song. He pointed out that his favorite part is when it crosses over into the chorus starting with the lyrics, “Spill the tea,” and ending with, “Can you keep a secret?” Track number three is ‘What More Can I Do?" which is a fan song with a special focal point. Fans should listen for the part where Kim WooSeok says ‘I love you’ in several languages. The fourth track is ‘Shame’ which he has taken on as a challenge. It is a soulful R&B track which is a genre that he hasn’t tried out that much before. He actually recommended this song as a must-listen B-Side and expressed curiosity at how fans would react to it. The fifth song on the album is ‘살며 봄이 오면 (Spring Comes Softly)’ and the final song is ‘Satisfied’. ‘Satisfied’ not only finishes off the album but as ‘Intro : Lost’ was the beginning in “1ST DESIRE [GREED]”, ‘Satisfied’ also finishes off the “DESIRE” trilogy by acting as an outro to the entire series. Kim WooSeok then showed us the point choreography for ‘Switch’ which includes a hand movement where he flips his hands as if flipping the switch between dreams and reality. He followed with a gripping performance of ‘Switch’ that showed his pretty dance lines to the rhythmic nature of the song. You can watch the music video for ‘Switch’ here. It was then time for a Q&A session where Kim WooSeok shared more of his thoughts on his comeback and his future plans. Kim WooSeok said that he hoped this comeback would allow more people to discover and listen to his music. He also shared that he hopes to be an artist who is always highly-anticipated and that his fans can lean on. When asked if there was a nickname he hoped to gain through this comeback, he shared that it was a ‘human dreamcatcher’. He also shared that he hopes to be able to become an all-rounder in the industry regardless of the field that he is taking on as a challenge. This is part of the reason why he says he took on the role of Nam DoYoon in “Bulgasal: Immortal Souls”. Kim WooSeok wanted to take on a role that would be challenging so that he could develop his acting skills. As he has never lived like his character, he admits that the role was difficult but says that he started becoming comfortable with his character around episode 13 of the drama. However, he reiterated that even though that is his goal, he loves acting and being an idol equally. Kpopmap asked: As an all-rounder artist with great visuals, you are extremely popular overseas. Do you have a message for your international fans who are anticipating this comeback? And what are your global goals for 2022? After the COVID-19 situation gets better, my biggest goal is to meet my fans. After that, I hope that I can express how much I love my fans just like in the part of the third track of this album ‘What More Can I Do?’ where it says, “I love you,” in many different languages. I’ll do my best to meet international fans through diverse content so please look forward to it! Kim WooSeok As his “DESIRE” trilogy comes to an end, Kim WooSeok shared that rather than having a lot of desire, he is blessed to be able to do what he wants to do with the support of his fans, Nias.
