More and more idols are learning different languages as K-Pop is becoming really popular abroad, so let’s have a look at the ones learning French!
1. KINGDOM’s Dann
Probably the idol that can speak the best French! But that’s not all, he can also speak English and Arabic! During an interview for VARSITY, he declared “I watched music shows and dreamed of becoming an idol. I lived in Dubai from the age of 10 for 10 years and was worried about finding a chance to become one. Fortunately, I was in charge of the English translation at the Abu Dhabi K-CON. I was translating and the company representative asked me if I wanted to become one, an idol. I gave a video of me singing and I was accepted.” Even though French didn’t help him become an idol, no doubt he has a lot of French fans now thanks to his ability!
2. Red Velvet’s Wendy
She moved to Ontario, Canada, when she was in junior high school. This gave her an opportunity to learn some French, and improve her English. In 2019, when she appeared on “Daehan Foreigner”, she revealed she also learned some Spanish as well! She declared during the show “Since I learned them at a young age, I didn’t have any fear about speaking them. I felt like I was playing games, so I ended up learning them quickly.”
3. GOT7’s Jackson Wang
He is known to be fluent in four languages; Cantonese, English, Mandarin, and Korean and he learned for a long time French almost a decade ago. He gave good advice during an episode of “GOT2DAY” with his fellow member JinYoung; “If you want to pick up a foreign language, you should know the culture first. Once you familiarize yourself with the culture, you need to learn the humor of that country. Learn a person’s lifestyle. Learn what’s regarded as humorous in that country.”
4. BLACKPINK’s Jennie
In October 2020, members of BLACKPINK, including Jennie, appeared on “Knowing Brothers”. Jennie revealed during this occasion that she had started studying French as she was attracted to the culture and wanted to learn more about it. She also introduced herself to the cast in French and taught them how to say “knowing brothers”. She proudly declared that her goal was mastering French!
5. Stray Kids’ Felix
He learned French compulsory for two years in high school when he was still living in Australia. His accent is pretty good, even though it’s rare to listen to him talk in French. As he had to learn french, the group decided to give a french word, “Clé” (key), as the title of one of their album.
6. Henry
He learned French at school when he lived in Canada as it is pretty common there to learn it. Henry has said that his parents were the most influential people in his life when it came to learning how to speak several languages. His dad and mother spoke five dialects and languages as well, such an impressive family! However, Henry considers his French level not that good.
7. CL
CL actually lived in France for two years when she was 13. As it was quite a long time ago, she forgot a lot about it, but her frequent appearance during fashion shows reminds her of some words. She still understands a lot of it, but it’s difficult to find footage of her talking in French recently! Are you also learning French? Do you find it difficult? Let us know in the comment below!
