You can find all our “Mood Playlists” by clicking here! This week’s Mood Playlist is dedicated to Kim GoEun, aka Kim YuMi, and GOT7’s JinYoung, aka Yoo BaBi from “Yumi’s Cells 2”. This season explores the romantic relationship between the two, complete with ups and downs. While there are a number of things that lead to their coupling, a busking concert by Kingston Rudieska ignites the initial spark. Here’s a playlist of Korean ska/reggae music that YuMi & BaBi would enjoy, and you will too!
1. Kingston Rudieska - ‘Reggae Bam Bam’
The name that is synonymous with Korean ska, Kingston Rudieska, is the perfect artist to kick off this playlist. If you want to get into ska music, what better place to start than the legends themselves. Maybe you will find your soulmate while listening to them too!
2. No.1 Korean - ‘Rosa’
Blending rock and ska seamlessly, No.1 Korean is truly one of a kind. ‘Rosa’ is the kind of song that will wash away your blues and pump you up with adrenaline. Each and every member of the band has such a unique presence that you will find yourself lost in their discography in no time!
3. Wonder Girls - ‘Why So Lonely’
If you’d prefer to ease yourself into this new genre, ‘Why So Lonely’ by Wonder Girls will do the trick. After all, it is undeniably one of the finest reggae songs the K-Pop industry has to offer. The addictive rhythm resonates with the soul, and the rap is simply phenomenal.
4. Windy City - ‘Wadada Friend’
Korean reggae/funk band Windy City is one of the pioneers of the genre in South Korea. The distinct style of the group is enjoyed and appreciated all over the world. If you’re new to Windy City, ‘Wadada Friend’ is a great place to introduce yourself to their music.
5. DREAMCATCHER - ‘July 7th’
DREAMCATCHER’s ‘July 7th’ is a brilliantly nuanced mix of a number of genres such as lovers rock and pop with hints of tropical too! In addition, the lyrics are inspired by the Chinese folklore - “The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl”. Adorned by DREAMCATCHER’s golden vocals, this song is as memorable as it gets.
6. SHINee - ‘Body Rhythm’
Finally, the reggae fusion masterpiece that lives rent-free in our heads, SHINee’s ‘Body Rhythm,’ is the perfect song to close out this playlist. It is an amazing example of how K-Ska/Reggae is making its way to mainstream K-Pop music, and no one does it better than SHINee. Did you enjoy this week’s Mood Playlist?
