There are K-Pop fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other’ stories and K-Pop life. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other. So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Pop fans from different countries: more about their K-Pop life and tastes and to give them the opportunity to share with our readers about their favorite group(s) and bias. Amanda is the next fan to answer our questions. She is from Australia and is a fan of SF9 and more particularly of RoWoon! Check out how she entered the fandom, the songs and content she advises to new fans, and much more! Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from? Hi, my name is Amanda, I’m in my 30s and I’m from Australia.
How and when did you enter the fandom? I have become a FANTASY since last year and started liking SF9 since September 2021. It all began after watching “The King’s Affection” on Netflix which caught my attention, and most importantly the main actor in the drama – RoWoon. Upon googling further about who he is, I found out that he is part of the boy band, SF9 and then started researching about the other members in the band, and I have been following their music that they have made together since their debut in 2016. What are the reasons why you love your favorite group? I love SF9 because I feel that they are a great close, humble, warm and gentle group that treat each other like brothers. Each member in the boy band are individuals and have their own quirks and different personalities, and are also hilarious to watch, especially when they muck around together. I feel that they gel together well as a boy band and have great harmonies when singing, and also write great songs together. SF9 creates music that is meaningful and true which actually touches people’s hearts and inspire others. Who caught your attention at first and why? RoWoon (Kim SeokWoo) caught my attention first from watching him star in the drama, “The King’s Affection” on Netflix. After completing that drama, I have followed up and watched all of RoWoon’s previous dramas he starred in and love them all! Apart from having a great voice, being so charming, handsome and good-looking, I feel that Kim SeokWoo (RoWoon) is a very genuine and authentic person, not just as an idol or actor/singer/model. Upon watching many of his interviews, videos, concerts and shows on youtube, I can see that he is a caring, considerate person and puts others before himself. He genuinely cares for and loves his fans that support and love him, and takes time to reflect upon himself and how he can improve on himself in singing, acting and generally doing things. RoWoon has a lovely and beautiful voice that can be versatile, and always sounds very gentle, calm, relaxing and smooth when he sings. Who is your bias, and why? As I’ve already stated above, my bias is RoWoon and also InSeong. Both RoWoon and InSeong have beautiful voices that are lovely to listen to. It makes me feel calm and relaxed that I can even fall asleep to. InSeong’s vocals are amazing and has a fantastic range. He can pull off any kinds of songs, whether they be high pitched or low pitched. RoWoon’s voice is so versatile and can adapt in harmony to the other member’s vocal range. Can you recommend a title track and a B-side track for new fans? ‘O Sole Mio’, which is my favourite song! ‘For Fantasy’ is also a lovely song that SF9 especially wrote and made for their fans. I also love ‘On & On’ a duet by YoungBin and InSeong in their most recent album, “Rumination”. Can you share with us one of your favorite lyrics? These lyrics are from their song ‘For Fantasy’ for their fans: “If you could be my star I will become the sky where you can be happy.” “I promise every day Happy, happy today May this moment last forever.” It makes me feel very lucky and happy to be a FANTASY and to hear how they really feel about their fans who support them, dedicating a song for their fans. SF9 all truly value FANTASY and will continue to improve on themselves, so they can make their fans proud! What is your favorite group/bias’ influence on your daily life? SF9 and RoWoon brings me great joy and happiness in my life. If I ever have a tough day, I start listening to SF9 and my favourite songs and it always lifts me up and lightens my day! It also enables me to pursue my hobby in learning Korean, so I can understand what they say and in the lyrics of their songs. What is your favorite side of fangirling/fanboying? Although I may not be as young anymore and even though the members of SF9 are all younger than me, I still love fangirling and am proud to call myself a FANTASY. It makes me feel younger! 😊 I do hope to be able to actually meet them in real life one day when they hold a concert in Australia or if I can go watch their concerts in Korea someday in the near future!
