Here are 3 things we’re expecting from BTS RM’s upcoming solo album “Indigo”!
1. Poetry
The first thing that comes to mind when we think of RM is “poet,” and truly, no other word would describe the revolutionary art he creates than “poetry”. Besides carrying the obvious meaning of lyricism, when I say poetry, I mean something that touches the soul, comforts the disturbed, and disturbs the comfortable. It carries a message that resonates on a microcosmic level as well as on a universal one. It is carefully crafted, sharp when it needs to be, and soft around the edges at the same time. There is no doubt that this theme will continue in “Indigo”, especially with how cozy, warm, and natural the album design is.
2. Abstraction
RM describes “Indigo” as “the last archive of my twenties” that draws from “the colours of nature, human, etc.” If there’s anything we know about RM, it is that he is staunchly true to himself and reflects his worldview in his art. “Indigo” is holistic, wholesome, instinctive, and inherently RM, which is also the reason why it is likely to be complex, intriguing, and powerful - almost like a rite of passage. Do not expect to understand this album on your first listen. As a matter of fact, like an unforgettable novel or a stellar painting, “Indigo” will probably unveil layers of indefinite meaning the more you listen to it.
3. Symbolism
No one does symbolism better than RM in the music industry, and he deserves all the accolades in the world for his immaculate talent. His music makes us feel emotions that we didn’t even know needed addressing, which is not only therapeutic but also cathartic, and he does this in the most subtle, nuanced way. Symbolism, in this regard, is his biggest strength because it adds an evocative dimension to his art. In “Indigo”, we’re expecting even more of such symbols - starting from the denim motif and the meaning behind the name of his album. As far as research suggests, indigo is the colour of wisdom and intuition and also the second colour in the rainbow, right after violet or bora (purple), if you may. ARMY would know where we’re going with this, but we shall wait until the album drops on December 2 to form our theories. What are you looking forward to in “Indigo”?
