Choi SooYeon (Ha YoonKyung) is on the same team as Woo YoungWoo (Park EunBin), under Attorney Jung. She was also at the same university as her. Though she doesn’t realize it herself, she is a kind person who looks after YoungWoo. In episode 5, SooYeon asked YoungWoo to give her a nickname, to which YoungWoo gives her the title of ’ Spring’s Sunshine YoungWoo’. She expresses how SooYeon always looked after her at the university by standing up for her and now, opens YoungWoo’s bottles for her. To prove that the title suits her best, here is how SooYeon lives up to the title of being ‘Spring’s Sunshine’ in “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”. The article contains spoilers.
1. She Always Help YoungWoo When She Is Struggling
SooYeon is always there to help YoungWoo whenever she sees YoungWoo struggling. In episode 1, SooYeon admits that YoungWoo is not weak and that she always comes first. The viewers initially thought SooYeon might play a negative role in YoungWoo’s life, but soon the view is changed. When she sees YoungWoo struggling with the revolving doors, she goes back inside and pulls her out. She also always helps open YoungWoo’s bottles for her, and it is almost as if it is a habit. She took her bottle immediately, without any hesitation. Even though it might seems meaningless, the small gestures still meant a lot. YoungWoo expressed her gratitude in episode 5.
2. SooYeon Stood Up For YoungWoo When People Tried To Walk Over Her
Like discussed before, SooYeon protected YoungWoo at university. We were told how GeuRaMi (Joo HyunYoung) protected YoungWoo during high school, but it was thanks to SooYeon, that despite not having GeuRaMi, she had someone to protect her. In episode 8, MinWoo (Joo JongHyuk) anonymously posted about YoungWoo being hired because her father, Woo GwangHo (Jeon BaeSu) and Hanbada’s CEO, Han SeonYoung (Baek JiWon), were friends. Even though that was true, it was the CEO who came to her father and offered to hire her. But the bulletin post said that it was by her father making the request. YoungWoo, being an angel, does feel like she was in the wrong. SooYeon steps into not only comfort her but purposefully speaks loudly, so everyone can hear. She expresses how it was not unfair that YoungWoo worked too hard to be in her position. She also pointed out the discrimination she faced because of her disorder, which is why she was hired late. When MinWoo came up to SooYeon in episode 7, he expressed how he felt it was unfair that YoungWoo got the job by nepotism. SooYeon still stood up for her, even though she was initially unaware of the relationship. She also speculated that it was MinWoo who posted the article and questioned him before Attorney Jung.
3. SooYeon Gives Up On Her Crush For YoungWoo
From the beginning, we knew SooYeon had a crush on Lee JunHo, like every other girl in the office. In episode 2, when two of the team had to disguise as a couple to learn what caused the wedding dress to slip off. SooYeon asks if JunHo could go with him instead of MinWoo. Though she is unable to go because of her upset stomach. In episode 6, when MinWoo tells her that she is the girl JunHo likes, she is super pleased. But soon she realizes that it is not her but YoungWoo, it is the girl he likes. She observes how JunHo is trying to get her attention when she is immersed in the documents. SooYeon doesn’t keep it to herself but tells YoungWoo about it. Further in the episode, she confronts JunHo about it. She warns him that he must not lead YoungWoo on if he were to get annoyed by her within less than a year. Even though she liked him, she was more worried about YoungWoo being heart broken.
4. She Fights Bravely In Court To Get HyangSim Justice
In episode 6, YoungWoo is put in the same case as SooYeon because SooYeon seemingly grew too immersed in a case. The case was of HyangSim (Kim Hieora), a North Korean defector who had confessed to her crime after leaving her child in an orphanage. HyangSim was charged with injury as a result of robbery. HyangSim had asked ‘Mom’ (a North Korean defector broker) for ten million won. Mom had sent it over to SunYeong (Lee SungMi), who was supposed to give it HyangSim. HyangSim had decided to split the money with another North Korean defector, JeongHui (Lee RangSeo). The two broke into SunYeong’s house and they got into a fight. SunYeong was also a victim of domestic abuse. When the police came onto the scene, SunYeong lied and said that the bruises (actually given by her husband) were caused by JeongHui and HyangSim. JeongHui got arrested and spent 4 years in jail. HyangSim had fled the scene. She wanted to protect her daughter who was very young at the time. She waited till she was old enough to recognize her before she left the orphanage and came clean about her crime. Though it was a hard case, SooYeon did not give up. She and YoungWoo took every possible path to save her, even if they had to lie that HyangSim was used to the law of North Korea. It shows SooYeon being an overall sympathetic and kind personality. SooYeon has also become fan’s favorite character from “Extraordinary AttorneyWoo”. She is an absolute angel but at the same time, her character is not unrealistically all good. There are times she snaps at YoungWoo with frustration or feels jealous but still is there for YoungWoo or anyone in need of her help.
