The drama in question is “Handwritten”, a historical mystery suspense K-Drama based on the novel of the same name. The project will be helmed by production company RaemongRaein, who created the blockbuster hit Watcha original “Semantic Error”. If accepted, this will be Seo InGuk’s small screen comeback after “Café Minamdang”, which garnered great love and attention from fans all over the world earlier this year. Meanwhile, Seo InGuk is enjoying the overwhelming success of “Project Wolf Hunting”, both in South Korea and internationally. “Handwritten” is a sageuk drama that has been dubbed the Korean version of Matt Damon’s iconic award-winning cult classic film “The Bourne Identity”. Set in the Joseon Dynasty, it will tell the story of Kwon SooYoung, the character that Seo InGuk is in talks for, who goes into a moribund state for a decade and wakes up with amnesia. In the face of this haze, he is thrown into a conspiracy of power, and revolution, where he is the key player. However, having lost his memories, SooYoung must find his identity and realize his own grave importance before it is too late. Kwon SooYoung is a government officer who is responsible for maintaining records. He is a man of honor and virtue who rose up the societal ranks and attained the pinnacle of power after being born into an unfortunate and underprivileged family. To this end, he was quick to realize that influence and backing far outdid his ability and competence, so he resorted to underhanded yet necessary means to achieve his goal. However, his comfortable new life is put in danger when he unwittingly becomes a participant in treason and barely escapes execution for the crime of modifying the annals. After he wakes up with memory loss, he must deal with the consequences of his actions without the slightest clue as to why he is being hunted down. To save himself and the nation he so loves, SooYoung must regain his memories and uphold the handwritten truth. On this journey, SooYoung transforms into a righteous, bold, and conscientious officer who holds the truth above anything else. He has a specific vision for the future of his country that he fights to protect, even in the midst of a whirlpool of confusion and crisis. Firm in belief and temperament, SooYoung overcomes his vain desires to risk his life for the greater cause of standing on the right side of history. The original novel is praised for its excellent pacing, cathartic execution, and riveting plot structure, which unravels just like a thriller film. Now that it is finally getting a live-action adaptation, expectations are rightfully through the roof. Given Seo InGuk’s remarkable duality, Kwon SooYoung would be the perfect character for him. Fans have been waiting to see the actor in a historical drama, and when the offer is this brilliant, we cannot help but wish that he accepts the role. Are you excited for “Handwritten”?
