Kpopmap was invited to the 2022 MAMA Awards Global Press Conference held on Nov. 16 and got some information about the upcoming award ceremony for you. Check them out below:
1. Rebrand & 2022 Concept
Formerly MAMA or Mnet Asian Music Awards, in 2022 the award ceremony was rebranded to MAMA Awards. So the name changed from MAMA to MAMA Awards. The ceremony has a long heritage as they have created pioneers trends and created stories with unrivaled passion. When no one tried to go global, MAMA tried and they succeeded. With their use of technologies and beautiful stages created by artists who want to show something new and are ready to make their best effort for this, the show is of great quality. This is a place where a lot of artists dream to perform. In 2022, MAMA Awards logo also changed along with the slogan “We Are K-Pop”. This year’s focus is on K-Pop which is why there are less K-Pop idols on this year’s lineup because the focus is on K-Pop compared to previous years. MAMA wants to spread the values of K-Pop along with the spread of K-Pop. Music critic Kim YoungDae said that in the states K-Pop used to be called a “temporary craze” and a niche in the past, but it is not at all at the moment, they have been a lot of changes in the past 2-3 years. As an example of showing the importance of K-Pop music in the world. K-Pop World Citizenship is the concept of 2022 MAMA Awards with the core idea of “Music Makes One”. The K-Pop world is unique, respects diversity, and is a united community through music. “K-Pop artistry and fandom are channeled as a force for good guided by a message of shared hope and empowerment. Boldness, passion, and audacious dreams: the MAMA Awards is an unequaled opportunity to experience the quintessential values of K-Pop,” according to MAMA Awards. MAMA Awards will work to deliver these. They are hoping to hold MAMA Awards offline in the states in the future and are getting ready for this. Many overseas fans cast their votes and the US fans were in the top 5 countries participating in the online votes.
2. Hosts: Jeon SoMi & Park BoGum
There will be 2 days of awards to bring the best of the story that wants to be shown with the time to have colorful and diverse stages.

Jeon SoMi is in charge of the first day. During the conference, Yoon ShinHye (CJ ENM Chief Producer) explained that they thought she is a cultural ambassador with global fans and is good to talk about the concept K-Pop World Citizenship. She is strong and powerful and matches well Generation Z among other reasons.

He was the host of MAMA for 3 years. Yoon ShinHye explained that he has a trustworthy voice and is perfect for the story of the MAMA Awards.
3. Performing Artists, including J-Hope first solo stage
As for now, 22 artists were announced to perform at 2022 MAMA Awards. Groups that dominated the world including Stray Kids, TXT, Kep1er, JO1, ITZY, ENHYPEN, IVE, TREASURE, Hyolyn, Zico, Im YoungWoong, FORESTELLA, (G)I-DLE, BIBI, NiziU, INI, NMIXX, LE SSERAFIM, NewJeans, KARA, and DKZ.

His bright and positive energy is the perfect match for this year’s MAMA Awards concept. J-Hope was the first to release a solo album among the members. It is called: “Jack in the box” and his first solo stage called ‘I am Your Hope’ will be released for the first time at MAMA Awards.
4. 3 Exciting collaboration stages
Yoon ShinHye also mentioned collaboration stages to look forward to. They will inspire the audience by matching the concept of this year: “Music Makes One”, going beyond genre and frontiers.

Music critic Kim YoungDae mentioned that this year there is an evolution in K-Pop. Usually, boy groups have great fandoms so that is why they are more popular but this year it is proven that girl groups have strong fanbases and have a lot of popularity. 5. Fair and transparent voting, including overseas fans
MAMA balanced factors for the awards include: Global Music Platform Data, Worldwide Fan’s Choice, and Evaluation of Global Music Experts (100 people from in and out Korea). MAMA Awards takes overseas fans into account and reflects their votes. If you are curious about it, make sure to read all the detailed explanations on their website. MAMA Awards said they do their best to issue a fair and constancy process for the best transparency. They monitor real-time the votes and after as well. Moreover, they apologized for the Twitter votes that were decided to not be counted for voting due to internal changes within Twitter.
