The title track ‘The One’ plays on a number of different interpretations, increasing its elusive charm. On the one hand, it refers to the number ‘1’, and on the other, it plays on the Korean word “Won” meaning a complete circle that connects the beginning and the end. Musically, it is new ground for DRIPPIN and the group conquers it with excellence. The drum & bass is addictive, to say the least, and the nu-metal guitar riff is just the cherry on the cake. In light of the release of “Villain: The End”, DRIPPIN’s 1st full-length album, the group sat down for an interview with Kpopmap and opened up about the meaning behind their title track ‘The One’, the DRIPPIN cinematic universe, and more. Welcome to Kpopmap, DRIPPIN, and congratulations on the huge success of your comeback with “Villain : The End”! First of all, how does it feel to finally conclude the “Villain” trilogy with your first full album?
It’s a series that we’ve spent a long time with, so we feel relieved and sorry at the same time. The members worked hard for it so we all feel proud as well. Cha JunHo The title track of your 2nd single album “Villain: Zero” was called ‘Zero’. The title track for this album is called ‘The One’. What does being “The One” mean to you?
For us, ‘The One’ means that through music, DREAMIN and DRIPPIN will be together for a long time. Kim MinSeo The lyrics for ‘The One’ express a rare duality. Which DRIPPIN member do you think has the best duality and why?
Among us, the member with the best duality is DongYun-hyung. While DongYun-hyung looks cute, like a puppy, he is scared of dogs. Hahahaha! Alex What was the most unexpected aspect of making this album, and how did you react to it?
When we heard the title track, unlike our previous albums, it was energetic and exciting, so I remember being flustered. It was different from what we expected, so it was refreshing. Kim DongYun With the “Villain” trilogy, DRIPPIN has created a unique cinematic universe. What’s next for DRIPPIN in this universe?
While doing the “Villain” Trilogy, the atmosphere of the stage changed. We wanted to show and let people know that DRIPPIN is capable of doing all these different images. Joo ChangUk What are some concepts each of you would like to try going forward? Do you have any specific artistic direction in mind?
In the future, I want to try a refreshing and bright concept~! Lee Hyeop I want to try something like a neat and understated, sexy concept. Hwang YunSeong I want to try a song with a high teen feel, and I think a mature concept would be fun too. Joo ChangUk I want to try a brighter and energetic concept. Kim DongYun As much as DREAMIN likes refreshing concepts, I want to try it. Kim MinSeo I want to try a mature, something noir or a strong, manly concept. Cha JunHo I liked the concept of ‘Young Blood’, the title track from our 2nd mini album, but I also want to try the concept of ‘Looking for a Love’ again, which, although it wasn’t an official album, we worked on it with the producer Kim SeungSoo. Alex If you could become another member for the next comeback, which member would you want to be and why?
JunHo. Like JunHo, I want to do a stage with good visuals and wide shoulders.
