Set in Daeho, a great country that does not exist in history or on maps, “Alchemy of Souls” revolves around the two protagonists as their fate becomes twisted due to magic. In various interviews, the cast has commented on how original and captivating the story felt when they first read the script—and hopefully you will feel the same too. So if you’re still hesitating to start “Alchemy of Souls”, here are some reasons why this drama should be added onto your watchlist.

1. Star-studded cast and F4 concept

From rising stars to established names, the cast of this drama is simply top tier and can’t go unnoticed. Award-winning actress Jung SoMin plays Moo DeokYi, the world’s greatest assassin trapped in a frail and weak body. She looks to regain her strength in order to complete her secret mission. Many fans are curious how Jung SoMin will portray her character and excited for her return to the small screen so soon after “Monthly Magazine Home”. Beside her as the male lead is rising star, Lee JaeWook. He plays Jang Wook, heir to the Jang family. His fate changes completely after meeting Moo DeokYi. He aims to become one of the strongest mages in Daeho, while also uncovering the secrets behind his birth. Due to his noble status and connections with other high-ranking family of mages, Jang Wook is part of an F4-esque group which includes Seo Yul (Hwang MinHyun), Park DangGu (Yoo InSoo), and Jin ChoYeon (Oh My Girl’s Arin). Due to their striking visuals and unique traits, they have gained nicknames as the four seasons. Jin ChoYeon resembles the sweetness of spring, Park DangGu is associated with the passion of summer, Seo Yul is the embodiment of fall, and rounding off the group is Jang Wook with the coldness of winter.

2. A combination of genres

This drama has elements from a multitude of genres, allowing it to appeal to a wide variety of fans. Although it is described as a fantasy romance, there is an influx of action and lighthearted comedic moments to add even more depth to the already exciting plot. With the introduction of magic and mages, along with the never-ending secrets in the land of Daeho, “Alchemy of Souls” is already proving to be a must watch, leaving viewers breathless as they wait to see what happens next.

3. Captivating fight scenes

There’s nothing wrong with a good romance and the tingling warmth that it brings. This drama brings just that with riveting fight scenes along the way. Using both CGI for magic and the trained swordsmanship from the actors, there have been a bunch of beautifully choreographed fight scenes since this drama’s release that are simply breathtaking. Even from the trailer alone, this drama promises to be a treat for all the action-lovers out there.

4. A good underdog story

Despite being born into a noble family recognized and respected by many, Jang Wook is seen as the weakest link among his peers and has always been questioned due to his scandalous birth. Although at first he is not expected to accomplish anything spectacular, Jang Wook is someone viewers will want to root for as the story continues. It was even revealed in an interview that JaeWook does his own stunts in fighting scenes. With such hard work both on and off screen, you can’t help but cheer for the Jang Wook to succeed!
